The Right Floor Is A Part Of Your Family

Deciding on the right flooring is as much about lifestyle as it is design style. Because what's perfect for one family could be totally unworkable for your family. So your Star designer starts by getting to know you. The size of your family, the age of any children, the number and kinds of family pets, and the way you'll use the room all help to lead you in the right direction. Your real life needs help narrow the thousands of flooring choices available down to a favorite few, and ultimately to the one that's a perfect fit for you.

Carpet

Pros: Warm, excellent comfort underfoot. One of the most effective acoustic and thermal insulators.

Cons: Even with stain resistant materials, spills and carpets don’t go well together. Mold and mildew can be a problem.

Hardwood

Pros: Long lasting. Wide range of looks and hues. Never goes out of style.

Cons: Dents and scratches easily. Requires immediate spill maintenance to prevent stains. May need periodic refinishing.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

Pros: Sturdy, and quiet. Available in wide variety of styles and colors. Easy to clean.

Cons: Not suitable for stairs. Water can damage adhesive. Seams collect moisture and dirt.

Vinyl

Pros: Durable, easy to clean and maintain. Resistant to insects.

Cons: Sharp objects can scratch or dent the surface. Can be hard underfoot.

Laminate

Pros: Increasingly popular. Durable, easy to clean, scratch resistant.

Cons: Won’t resist mildew, mold, or insects. Made of synthetic materials. Difficult to repair.

Tile

Pros: Durable, easy to clean. Add value to a home.

Cons: No “give.” Can feel cold. Man-made tiles are susceptible to scratches, mold, and mildew
